Establishing Your Identity

Updated: Feb 9, 2023

It is time for a fresh start, a new chapter and new beginning. Feel as though your old wardrobe doesn't represent who you are anymore? That you need a new look? One that fits you comfortably or one that represents where you are right now? Do you feel the need for change, yet are struggling to get to the start line?

It's easy to get so swallowed up in your work, your family, your home and in other life stresses. For many years your focus can shift away from yourself without you even noticing. It's possible to completely lose your identity when you make everything else a priority. You eventually realise you can only put yourself on hold for so long until you come to the point in your life where you start asking the big questions:

  • Who am I now?

  • Is this where I want to be?

  • Where am I headed next?

You might not be that person but you might be someone who has gone through:

  • a body transformation

  • pregnancy and post pregnancy

  • lost someone or something very precious

  • weight fluctuations

  • an occupation change

  • new environment,

  • maturity

  • taste change

Something significant has happened to bring you to question your present self. It's always good to recognise when it's time for an overhaul! Style is forgiving. There's no need to be consumed by the mistakes of yesterday. These style blogs will help you to find your correct fit in the style world. For some that will mean a completely new identity. For others it will be an extension of an existing identity.

It's a women's prerogative to change her style many times over throughout her fashion journey. Whatever the reason, embracing a change in style will lead you towards a happier existence, as your style is the gateway to expressing yourself freely and honestly. Changing your style is a necessary part of growth.

An accomplished personal style is a game changer in your life. It will enhance your whole self-value, as well as have a positive flow-0n effect to others. Good style is not only fulfilling it's also contagious!

Establishing a new style: the beginning of change

The very best way to get to the start line is by stripping yourself back to a blank canvas. This means letting go. You can't embrace the new without letting go of the old. Clear your mind and then clear your wardrobe (every single item). The process may leave you feeling raw; it is necessary though and you will be okay. You'll feel great!

Concentrate your energies into thinking about your new place in the fashion world without the clutter. What does it look like? Start by delving deeply into the things you are most closely connected to. This may take a bit of thinking and some time, but go ahead and look beneath the surface. Think about what moves you, what inspires you, and where your passions lie. What do you love?

Think about your strengths and the things you are really good at. What are natural talents? Write them down. Seeing it on paper and understanding what you are naturally attracted to will help to develop a vision of your true self. This will translate into building a wardrobe that will represent you honestly as well as resonate with who you are. This is also the process of identifying your taste (coming up in next style blog), where you will use your personal flavour to build a mood board.

Back to your wardrobe now. You will only be putting back in the items that fit into your newly developed style. There may not be many, but that is okay. These few pieces are relevant to you now and will be built upon. Anything that doesn't fit into your new look will need to be kept face away from the wardrobe.

There might be a few items you can't bear to part with; keep these in a box and place that box somewhere else in your home. You don't need to remove your sentimental possessions but do keep them out of your creative space.

I am ending this blog here.

I hope you like it, make sure to read my next style blog.
