Rule number #1
Rule of thirds.
WHAT IS THE RULE OF THIRDS?
The Rule of Thirds is a concept in visual arts, mainly photography, film and painting, and it’s basic guideline for making images more dynamic or compelling. It consists of dividing an image in thirds, both vertically and horizontally, to create 9 equal blocks and lining up where you want the eye to go to where those lines intersect.
Style is also a visual medium, and while we don’t divide our outfits in 9 equal sections, applying the Rule of Thirds requires diving our outfit in three equal parts to visually create a ratio of 1/3 or 2/3.
Here are a few examples that will help you to create one-third proportion in your look.
I hope this image will help you when you next style your outfit. Similarly, rule of thirds we apply for dresses and skirts 2/3 proportion.
Stylist Advice: Avoid adding wide belts. A chunky belt can cut you in half, which can cause you to look stumpy. However, narrow belts define natural waist in the most flattering way possible.
Rule Number #2
Pattern and Solid
The second rule is to combine big pattern and textures with pieces that are either solid or have subtle designs.
And yes too many prints in one outfit will not only make your outfit look cluttered but will make you look short as well. Pick subtle, minimal prints or go for solid monochromatic colours.
Rule Number #3
Jewellery
The third rule is to balance out your look with the power of jewellery, if your outfit is a bit bland and boring then add some jewellery to make it look interesting and appealing.
Stylist Advice: Avoid adding too much jewellery. When you are wearing statement neck piece, wear along with ear studs and when you are wearing long or danglers earring don't add neck piece. Try to balance out entire look. Always remember less is more.
Rule Number #4
The Perfect Fit
Style rule number four is perfect fit. Wear clothes that fit you perfectly well, anything either very loose or tight will spoil your entire look. The secret of great style is wearing clothes according to your body shape and size. Instead of sticking with a size on tag, consult expert for rightsize and forget about your technical size.
Loose clothes make you look as if you have borrowed it from your bulky friend.
Extremely fitted clothes can not only make you feel uncomfortable, but also cause you embarrassment in certain situations.
Stylist Advice: Don't go for the overkill by pairing loose top with loose bottom. This combo will make you look short. Maintain a balance by wearing a loose top with a well-fitted bottom or loose bottom with well- fitted top.
